BioI'm an uprooted midwesterner who has recently been deposited on the grotesquely overrated suburban nightmare that is Long Island. No, it isn't fabulous, no, it isn't wonderful to be so close to the city, and no, it certainly isn't worth the $1200 we pay in rent per month.
It IS worth it for the Anthropology Department at Stony Brook, however, lest I begin to sound like another progressive burnt out on my own self-righteousness. I'm currently in a PhD track program, and currently fill the role of teaching anatomy to a bright young generation of future and current medical students who seem to have a knack for declaring every single cadaver in the lab to be an anomaly because the bible states that men and women have different numbers of ribs. These are the people who are going to be caring for you in your old age.
I spend the majority of the day at my desk crunching numbers and reading volumes of articles that would most likely bore the average man to tears, so I'll spare you the details. I've given my computer a proper name, so that I can swear at it more effectively, but have ironically demoted my husband to the status of "hey you" for similar purposes.
I like monkeys more than most people.
